Welcome to Swiss Board of Aid
We're a Non-profit Charity Organization
It started in 2011, when 19-year-old nursing student Ranjana Gigi from Switzerland volunteered in a small rural hospital in the Eastern Cape in South Africa. What began as informal support with medical material for a local hospital has grown into a sustainable non-profit organisation focusing mainly on abused and abandoned children with complex medical needs.
Today, the founder Dr. med. Ranjana Gigi runs the projects on the ground in South Africa backed up by a strong Swiss/South African board of directors – all without remuneration, driven by compassion and commitment.
The projects of the Swiss Board of Aid offer a wide range of help for hospitals, schools, underpriviledge communities, children and their families focusing on the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The heart of the Swiss Board of Aid is to give the most vulnerable children in need a home and a future with good education with the iThemba (‘Hope’) projects.
The iThemba Home gives neglected, abused and abandoned children with complex medical needs a safe and loving home because we deeply believe that every child deserves to feel loved, protected and cared for no matter what background, disability or even lifespan.
Our Projects
The Swiss Board of Aid offers a wide range of help in South Africa focusing on the Eastern Cape and on children and health care.
The heart of the Swiss Board of Aid is to give children in need a home and a future with good education. Therefore the iThemba projects were started. iThemba translates from isiXhosa, the most spoken language in the Eastern Cape, as hope – hope for children and families in need for a good, independent and successful future.
