The Swiss Board of Aid was founded in 2011 and is registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO number 267-206) in South Africa and tax-exempted by SARS as an approved Public Benefit Organisation (PBO number 930070562).  In Switzerland, we are registered as a tax-exempted association. Purpose Support of all kinds (especially hospitals, clinics, schools and children) mainly in the Eastern Cape in South Africa. Principles All work for the Swiss Board of Aid is voluntary – all travel, accommodation and other costs are covered by the members of the Swiss Board of Aids themselves. Donations are used exclusively for the effective costs of the projects (e.g. shipment costs of material transport, payments of medical goods, school fees, building material). Administrative work and the like are not compensated and are carried out on a voluntary basis. There is no direct financial support in form of money to the hospital and the community, instead only in the form of goods, work and the like.

Future project: iThemba School

Future Project iThemba School In order to educate the children and their caregivers of iThemba Home, we would like to open the iThemba School in the future. In this way, uneducated carers and children should receive schooling together in a familiar atmosphere. Later on, we consider to also accept children from the surrounding areas to the iThemba school. For us, good school education is the most important basis to build a better and fairer society and to give the children and their caregivers a hopeful and successful future.

Project in progress: iThemba Home

Project in Progress iThemba Home There are many children in need in East London (Eastern Cape) and the surrounding area who urgently need a home. The currently existing children’s homes and places of safety are permanently overcrowded and have to regularly reject children, who then for example have to wait for weeks in hospital for a place. Since the iThemba Family cannot accommodate even more children in their private household, iThemba Home is needed. The iThemba Home should not only offer orphans, abandoned children and other children in need temporarily and long-term a safe and loving home, but also, if possible and wanted, to their closest caregiver (mother / father / aunt etc.). The placing together with the caregiver should prevent an abrupt brake of the bond and provide the caregiver in need with the necessary support to raise the child independently again in the future if anyhow possible. If a child is placed alone, caregivers of the iThemba Home will care with love and warmth for the child to give the child the opportunity for a hopeful and best possible future. Health knowledge will be thought, love learned and violence prevention trained. iThemba Home should be a school of life for everyone and offer parents and caregivers an opportunity to get their lives on the right track. A large piece of land is already available for iThemba Home and another place of safety supports the Swiss Board of Aid in the necessary administrative matters. In order to hopefully soon welcome the many waiting children in need and if possible their caregivers to iThemba Home, the Swiss Board of Aid is urgently looking for donations and patronages to be able to build the home and to cover the running costs.

iThemba Family

iThemba Family iThemba family offers up to 4 children who cannot grow up with their biological family an upbringing in a harmonious family, school education and, if necessary, medical care. The children live with members of the Swiss Board of Aid in East London in South Africa in a safe and loving family environment. It is important to us that the children receive good school education. Education gives the children a good career opportunity later in life to become independent, young adults. Only through sponsorships and donations, we can offer these children in need a home and ensure their school education. At the moment, it is not possible to accommodate more children in the private household, therefore we are planning iThemba Home for the future.

Supporting the community

Supporting the Community The Swiss Board of Aid supports the community in various ways. We sell donated clothes from Switzerland in locations for a minimal amount so that people in need can afford good clothes, especially for the very cold winter months. The raised money from selling clothes is reinvested into our projects. In exceptional situations, we also donate clothes to the people in need, for example during the coronavirus pandemic. We regularly donate children’s items and clothing to a local children’s home. Already for the second time, the Swiss Board of Aid organises and transports laptops full of learning material from Labdoo to schools in South Africa. This offers children from underprivileged families to to get computer literate already at school. For our online shop, we purchase the goods mindfully in South Africa to maximise the benefit for local people in need. For example, the children’s clothes with animal motives are from a youth center for unemployed young people in a very remote area or the bags made out of African fabrics are from a group of women with cancer. Support given so far: Donation of Laptops via Labdoo for the Hope Schools (2020) Sports T-shirts for the Hope Schools (2020) Children’s items for Guardians of Hope (since 2019) Support of specific local projects by purchasing articles for our Shop (since 2018) Donation of Laptops via Labdoo for Bezuidenhoutville Primary School in Adelaide (2015 Clothing sales (since 2012) Donating clothes (since 2012)
